Internacional to flourish back in the big time

The selection finished third in Brazil’s top flight last season, which was particularly impressive given that they had only just been promoted back to Serie A. Their relegation was a mere blip though, as they are one of the biggest clubs in the country.
Odair Hellmann’s side are back in this competition for the first time since 2015, and they started in great fashion with a 1-0 away win at Palestino.
Tonight they take on Alianza Lima, with the Peruvians having drawn their opener at home to River Plate. That’s a decent enough result for them, but I can’t see them doing much away from home in this tournament. They got to this stage last year and ended the group with just a single point – scoring only one goal.
No holding back the River in Argentina
Bet 2: River Plate to win to nil @ 5/6 – KO 00:30 GMT (Thurs)
The other fixture in Group A is of course River Plate versus Palestino. This should be pretty one-sided – especially as it’s in Argentina.
The hosts are one of the best clubs in the country, as it’s only really Boca Juniors who are superior. They are only fourth in the league, but they are currently unbeaten in nine in all competitions, and they have won three on the bounce in front of their own fans.
The visitors were beaten 1-0 at home by Internacional last week, and while they followed that up with a 4-1 victory in their domestic league at the weekend, they will surely be outclassed here.
Brazilians to power to victory
Bet 3: Back Flamengo to win to nil @ 1/1 – KO 00:30 GMT (Thurs)
In Group D, we have the two teams who won their opening match, squaring off against each other in Brazil.
I am very much keen on Flamengo getting the win, and I expect them to do it to nil. LDU Quito are the opponents, and they are currently only fifth in the Ecuadorian top flight. Admittedly there have only been five matches to date, but they were beaten 3-0 at Mecara on Saturday.
This is their foray into the Libertadores since 2016, while Flamengo went out in the round of 16 last season. If this was a horse race, the Brazilians would be a long way clear on the ratings.
