Santiago Solari is sure to be on his way out by the end of the season after Real Madrid’s exit of the Champions League, but who’s in the line-up to replace him?
Betfair customers are backing former Real Madrid boss, Mourinho, to replace him at 8/11, despite his reign ending in bitter fashion in 2013.
Jose Mourinho is odds-on favourite to be named next Real Madrid manager after the club tumbled out of the Champions League last night.
The champions were humbled by Ajax, despite the defending champions winning the first leg at the Johan Cruyff Arena 2-1, losing 4-1 at the Bernabeu and 5-3 on aggregate, ending a 1,011 day reign as Champions League holders.
Santiago Solari, while not sacked yet, is surely living on borrowed time. After being dumped out of Copa Del Rey with fierce rivals Barcelona winning 3-0 at the Bernabeu last week and being 12 points off the pace off the La Liga leaders, he will no doubt be out of a job when the season ends.
Jose’s second coming to Spain?
Betfair customers are backing former Real Madrid boss, Mourinho, to replace him at 8/11, despite his reign ending in bitter fashion in 2013. Which seems to be a common theme wherever “The Special One” goes.
As ever, Tottenham’s Mauricio Pochettino is among the leading candidates for one of European football’s most prestigious jobs as he continues to make strides with the North London club at 7/2, but the potential early value may be Raul at 12/1.
The Real Madrid legend has been mentioned in recent news stories and unlike Pochettino would not be expensive to prise from another club, he also carries none of the baggage associated with Mourinho. There’s also a new found trend in backing former club legends to manage the team they made their name at, or elsewhere. It worked with Zinedine Zidane at Madrid and is currently working with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United. With this, Raul could very much be in with a chance.
