It’s all about the Europa League for Thursday’s edition of the Daily Acca and Paul Robinson’s picks combine to pay 11/2. Here are his selections:
Gerrard’s Gers to continue to impress
Bet 1: Back Rangers @ 21/20 – KO 20:00 BST
Rangers sit top of Group G having taken four points from their opening two fixtures. They are certainly a stronger team this season under the guidance of Steven Gerrard and they come into this match having won three on the bounce in all competitions.
The Gers scored 10 goals across that trip of outings, and that included three against Rapid Vienna in this competition. Tonight’s opponents, Spartak Moscow, should provide more of a test, but with the Ibrox crowd behind them, the omens are good for a home win.
A quick word on the Russians though, as they were in the Champions League last season. They were actually in it again this year, but were knocked out by PAOK before the group phase, and they have just one point from a possible six in this consolation competition. They were also beaten at home in their domestic league at the weekend.
Big names to produce a big scoreline
Bet 2: Back Over 2.5 Goals in Marseille v Lazio @ 13/20 – KO 20:00 BST
The two heavy-hitters in Group H are Marseille and Lazio, but neither of them lead the way as the Italians have just three points from their opening two games and the French club only have one.
The hosts were beaten 2-1 on this ground by Eintracht Frankfurt, before going on to draw 2-2 at Apollon in Cyprus. It’s also worth noting that four of their five home matches in Ligue One have had at least three goals.
The visitors are in second place, but after winning their opener – 2-1 at home to Apollon – they then went to Germany and were thrashed 4-1.
They are on the road again tonight, but they will take heart from the fact that they have scored in each of their last five away games in all competitions – three of which saw this selection land.
Ukrainians to take the fight to the French
Bet 3: Back BTTS in Rennes v Dinamo Kiev @ 9/10 – KO 20:00 BST
Group K now for a fixture between Rennes and Dinamo Kiev that will hopefully have at least one goal for either team.
Rennes are in second place having won and lost one of their opening two games. They started well with a 2-1 win over Jablonec, but they needed a late penalty from Hatem Ben Arfa to get the job done, and they then lost 2-0 in Astana last time out.
Sabri Lamouchi’s side haven’t been firing on all cylinders in Ligue One either as they are only 11th in the table, but they did recently win at Monaco and then draw at Saint-Etienne. As far as the goals go, their last six league outings all had goals at both ends.
Kiev are third in the group as they have drawn both of their games to date. The pair of them finished 2-2 – one at home to Astana and then one in the Czech Republic at Jablonec.
Things are going well domestically however as they have won five on the bounce, and I expect them to take the game to their opponents as they really could do with the win.
